Silver Beach Picnic Area on Silver Lake

Scenic Rating is 3 out of 5 = GOOD

Rocky Knoll Campground
Lassen National Forest - Almanor Ranger District

Rocky Knoll camp is located on the east edge of the Caribou Wilderness near the Susan River 30 miles northwest of Susanville and 30 miles north of Lake Almanor.  Access is down a fair dirt road (Silver Lake Road) from paved County Road A21.  This road is passable to passenger cars, but care needs to be taken around rocks.

The campground is near Silver Lake, but not directly on the lakeshore.  There is a day use area with picnic facilities directly on the lake, a short walk away.  Campsites are laid out in one big loop.  A few sites are along the Susan River (can be dry later in the season), but the prettiest sites are along a pond on the West side of camp (probably quite a few mosquitoes, though).  Sites are well spaced and the forest is dense.  Good privacy.

Of the two camps in the Silver Lake area, this is the more scenic one and definitely the more popular one.  The camp is well maintained like most in the Lassen Forest.  Reviewed 06/01.
