Cave Lake Campground
Modoc Nat'l
Forest - Warner Mountain Ranger District

Remote. Just
the way I like it. This place is way up near
the Oregon Border in the Northern Warner
Mountains. This camp is a winner for me.
Pretty and quiet. The road getting
there is dirt and steep in places. I
wouldn't take a sedan, but I did take my
Subaru.
There is fishing here and
nearby Lily Lake. Lily Lake is more popular
and people do primitive camp there. It is
prettier, but Cave Lake is the campground.
There are no
campsites actually on the lake here. They
are about 1/4 mile away. They are on a delightful
little stream though. We camped in the furthest
east site (Site #5) and pitched our tent at the confluence
of two streams. Water trickled over the rocks
all night. Great sleep.
You'll pull into the
camp and see only the first 5 sites, but continue
over the creek and up a little hill and there is
another 4 up there in a loop. This place does
have a few day visitors, but you may be the only
one camped here, even on weekends. Sites
are very well shaded with pines, a few
deciduous up on the hills. Moss grows
on many trees, how quaint. I really like
this place. Reviewed 08/1998.
