Lily Lake Picnic Area
Modoc Nat'l Forest - Warner Mountain Ranger District

Click to Locate Patterson on an Area Map

Lily Lake is located in a very remote section of the Modoc National Forest way up near the Oregon Border in the Northern Warner Mountains.  You drive up Forest Road 2 from US 395 in the town of New Pine Creek, Oregon.  This forest road is fair dirt and quite steep in places.  I wouldn't drive a sedan on this road.

Although technically not a campground, it is listed because many people camp here anyway.  But be forewarned, the Forest Rangers will tell you to pack up if they catch you.  But do not fret, the Cave Lake Campground is only a mile away.

The reason why people will chance it with authorities to camp here is Lily Lake is prettier than Cave Lake campground.  And the Cave Lake campsites are not directly on the lake like they are at Lily.

Lily Lake has picnic tables set up directly along the shore.  If this was a campground, these would be ideal locations for sites.  However there is little to no shade right at the sites.  But it doesn't get too terribly hot here...so not that big of a deal, really.

There is usually a few people fishing here.  In fact, it's so remote you don't expect anyone to be here when you arrive.  But I would say Lily Lake gets about 2 to 3 dozen day visitors on weekends in summer.  Only a small amount stay the night up here.  Reviewed 08/1998.
