Wildhorse Crossing Campground
Humboldt-Toiyabe Nat'l Forest - Mountain City Ranger District

Wildhorse Crossing is located along Nevada Highway 225 between Wildhorse Dam and the community of Mountain City along the Owyhee River.

Wildhorse Crossing is located downstream of the very popular Wildhorse Reservoir.  This camp is mostly used as an overflow area for the reservoir, but some people actually use this as their base camp for the area because it is a little prettier and not so barren.

Campsites are set in the semi-lush canyon bottom, many directly on the Owyhee River.  There are no trees at the campground, but the brush along the river is very tall and dense.  So there is a little shade to be had there.  However, this is one of the coolest places in Nevada and the normal high temperature here in summer is right around 80 degrees with low temps typically in the 40's.

Activities at Wildhorse Reservoir, and stream fishing is about all there is to do round these parts.  Until hunting season comes, that is.  Then all these camps are very popular.  Reviewed 08/1997.
