Echo
Canyon Campground
Nevada State
Parks - Echo Canyon State Park
The
Echo Canyon camp is located in a juniper forested gully up
from the dam at Echo Canyon Reservoir. Campsites are set
into one long loop with restroom facilities available only up
front (inconvenient from back sites). Free firewood is
provided near the restrooms.
The Ash Canyon hiking trail
is at the back end (at the Amphitheater) and heads up over the
ridge (I hiked up here at sunset and watched the sun dive down
over Pioche into many spectacular colors). Each campsite
has it's own water spigot (no water in winter), picnic table
with a shade verandah, fire pit and barbecue grill.
Sites are fairly well shaded with junipers and introduced
ponderosa pines and random deciduous trees.
The camp
is quite popular with fishermen because the lake is stocked
with rainbow trout and largemouth bass. There is a large
group area across the dam on a bluff with good views
overlooking the lake and the fertile fields below the
dam. It features it's own set of flush toilets, a
volleyball court and horseshoe pits. You can explore
further by heading up Echo Canyon (yes it does actually
Echo). Boat Ramp. RV Dump Station. Reviewed
03/2000.
