Peavine Campground
Humboldt-Toiyabe Nat'l Forest - Tonopah Ranger District

The Peavine campground is located in the South end of the Toiyabe Range.  Access is from a fair dirt road from SR 376 in the Big Smoky Valley, not advisable to low clearance vehicles, but OK for average clearance passenger cars and minivans if driven with care.  Follow the signs up the canyon to the campground.  There are also a few primitive camp spots throughout Peavine Canyon outside of the campground.

After the first ford of Peavine Creek is the entrance road to the Peavine campground.  Campsites are along this road a 1/4 mile from the entrance.  Campsites are under a moderate forest of Cottonwoods and Willows.  Site #3, #5 and the Group Site are beside Peavine Creek.  The remaining sites though are well shaded and back up to the canyon walls.  No sites are far from the creek.  There are some additional primitive sites beyond the group site, but the road is deceivingly nice then gets really rough and twisted.  Although it connects back to the Forest Road, I didn't want to take my truck over it and I turned around.

Water flows in the creek are pretty low in middle to late summer, but the stream does run year round.  There are small fish in the stream.  Nice camp, not well visited.  In fact we were here 4th of July weekend and there was only one site being used.  Reviewed 07/2002.
