Shoshone
Campground
National Park
Service - Great Basin National Park
The camp is
not signed, but is located at the end of Snake
Creek Canyon Road at the trailhead to Johnson
& Baker Lake. There are 3
campsites all with tables and fire pits with
flip-over grills. There is a mens and
ladies pit toilet, but no water. The tent sites (no RV
sites) are located in a natural grassy area
underneath Quaking Aspens. The camp is pretty with awesome foliage in the Autumn. Snake
Creek Canyon is desirable,
totally isolated and away from the crowds! But if for some
reason the camp is full, Snake Creek camp is only 1 mile
downstream, as well as a dozen primitive camp sites along Snake
Creek.
The few people who camp here typically hike the long
trails up and over Johnson Pass, which seems to
be spectacular in brochures, but I did not hike
it myself this trip. Here's a tip, if you are hiking over
the trails, do not park in a campsite. Let someone else who wants
to camp there use it. Reviewed SEP98, JUL03.
