Bob Scott Campground is located at Bob Scott Summit (go figure) just east of the historic community of Austin, Nevada. The entrance is located on Highway 50, but the sites are a little bit back and are pretty quiet.

A good number of the visitors to Bob Scott are highway travelers stopping to use the restroom, eat a snack, etc. Otherwise it's used by off-roaders and as an overflow to busier Toiyabe Range recreation areas. In general, the number of overnight campers is not very high.

The campground blends into the surrounding terrain with most sites well forested with single-leaf piñon pines and the occasional Utah Juniper. These offer only fair shade, as these pygmy conifers rarely get above 25 feet tall. A few sites are well shaded, but most will be quite hot when the sun is directly overhead in summer. The access road that goes through the campground is completely paved and in fair condition.

The campsites are fairly private and are spread about well. There is one central bathroom with mens and ladies flush toilets. Additionally there is an old vault toilet used as overflow, or early or late in the season after the water is turned off. Speaking of water, there are water spigots throughout the campground, and most are really convenient to sites. In fact, this campground is very rare that it provides water, but there is no camping fee. I’m sure this will not last long, so enjoy it while you still can!

The group site (#10) is near the front of the camp, and it is quite handsome. This is one of the shadiest sites in the whole campground and can accommodate a group of about 30. There is also a small paved parking area adjacent to the group site. You can reserve this site through the Austin Ranger Station for a $25 fee. Three sites have RV pull-throughs.
