Crystal Springs Campground is located at the Eastern Entrance to the Carson River Canyon on Crystal Springs Road near it's junction with Highway 88/89.
This is a lower elevation camp than the others in the region, and it is the first campground Urban Nevadans get to when driving in. That makes for this to be a popular campground. It is in a pretty setting with a good stand of jeffrey pines, insence cedar and aspens, however the campgrounds up canyon are nicer, in my humble opinion.
The campground is set up with three loops within a loop up a rocky hillside. The entire camground is paved. Sites are spaced apart evenly. The Campground Host arrives usually by Memorial Day weekend and departs a few weeks after Labor Day. They sell firewood when present.
Fishing is very popular down at the Carson River, only a few hundred feet from camp. Sunrises and sunsets can be pretty cool as they cast their colors and shadows on the steep granitic canyon walls.
Limited services are available in Woodfords, approximately 2 miles away. Otherwise, a drive to Minden/Gardnerville in Nevada is about a 30 minute drive for all services including hospital.
Visited May 1998 and June 2008.
