I stopped by the Wolf Creek Campground in July 2009 while driving through the area. I drove down the full length of the Wolf Creek Road and at the end there was unsigned primitive campground. If it hadn't been for the large message board, I'm not sure I would have realized I arrived at a campground.
The old Toiyabe National Forest Map that I have says that Wolf Creek camp has 10 sites. There were approximately 6 or 7 remaining that had not been claimed by the forest. I think that the Forest Service has abandoned this campground. It doesn't look like it's maintained any more. In fact, it's not listed on their web site any longer.
However, should you want to come to Wolf Creek to camp, it's still here. I came on a weekday and the camp was half full. Sites are falling into disrepair, but most had a fire ring and a picnic table. There is one pit toilet as well. Some sites are placed in the open toward the meadow, others have ample shade. Wolf Creek runs year round nearby.
There is a trailhead out of camp that runs up an abadoned Jeep Trail into the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness. This would be a good place to set up as a base camp for hiking into the Wilderness.
Visited July 2009.
