Generally open Mar. 07 to Nov. 1; Fee $5.00/no potable water, first come first serve, picnic tables and campfire rings/stands (Bring own firewood or purchase). No horses allowed in campground. Stocked by California Department of Fish & Game, 85 RV/ tent sites available. 9 pit toilets, No electrical hook-ups. Campground capacity - 688 people. Elevation - 5,120 ft. 3.5 miles west of Lone Pine on Whitney Portal Road, then 1.5 miles south on Horseshoe Meadows Road, follow signs to site.
Description; This campground is shadowed by some of the most impressive peaks in the Sierra Nevada Range. Mt. Whitney, Lone Pine Peak and Mt. Williamson rise to the west of the campground. Camping is in an open desert setting on an alluvial fan. Spread out to the east is the ALABAMA HILLS with its famous movie history and terrific exploring. Beyond the Alabama Hills is the OWENS VALLEY suddenly rising into the INYO MOUNTAIN Range and KEYNOT PEAK Camping is good throughout the season. Plenty of opportunities for exploring, hiking, sightseeing, equestrian use. OHV use is limited to established, main roads. Closest amenities are in Lone Pine (3.5 miles).
