The Goumaz camp is located 3 miles off of Highway 44 approximately 15 miles northwest of Susanville. Access is down a fair dirt road (Goumaz Road - FR 30N03), not passable to low passenger cars.
The campsites are at the bottom of a steep canyon wedged between the Bizz Johnson Trail (abandoned railroad line turned bike trail) and the Susan River. Sites are in scattered pockets of pines, and all but Site #1 are on the river. Site #4 has limited shade. The Susan River flows year round here. The one bathroom is located between the entrance and the trailhead inconvenient to most sites.
Goumaz is quite popular. Given it's small size and the popularity of the Bizz Johnson trail with Mountain Bikers and it's close proximity to Susanville, it fills often. If full try the Bogard camp 15 miles north. Reviewed 06/01. Updated information from the Lassen College Foundation posted 02/2007.
