Trumbull Lake Campground
Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest - Bridgeport Ranger District
Longitude -119.26121, Latitude 38.05026

Click to Locate Trumbull Lake Campground on an Area Map Trumbull Lake Campground is located in Mono County, California, approximately 20 miles south of the small community of Bridgeport. Access is from the paved Virginia Lakes Road off of US 395 at Conway Summit.

Trumbull Lake is one of many pretty alpine lakes in the spectacular Virginia Lakes Region. It's located way up in an alpine glacial cirque. This is the place to go when it's 100 degrees in the valleys due to the high elevation. Here it is approximately 30 degrees cooler than the California Valleys and 25 degrees cooler than the Nevada Valleys.

The campground is set in 3 loops on a sloping hillside facing Trumbull Lake. The sites are well forested, but semi-rocky. The lake view sites are best, but they are quite limited in quantity. There are 4 sets of vault toilets and water spigots throughout the complex. It gets quite cold here at night (even in the middle of Summer), so bring warm clothes and good sleeping bags.

Fishing is very popular in the lake, with shore fishing and float tubing. There is a lot of great hiking in the vicinity. The Virginia Lakes Trailhead is about 1/4 mile away with many lakes in a short distance, and a small waterfall. Additionally you can keep going beyond these into the Yosemite Backcountry. There is a country store, cabins and boat rental across the road at the Virginia Lakes Resort.

This camp is very popular, and reservations are advised on the weekends. It can be very difficult to get the sites near the lake, even when booking far in advance. Reviewed 07/1998, 08/2005.
