This is a really cool looking camp, it is spectacular, kind of like something from Disneyland. It's hard to believe this camp gets overlooked for Horsethief Gulch. It is located next to the state park ranger station 2 miles up from Eagle Valley Reservoir. This would be my choice of camping in the area, but facilities are less developed than the Horsethief Gulch camp.
The sites are set among big picturesque rock formations (somewhat similar to Cathedral Gorge on a much smaller scale). Each site has a picnic table, fire pit with barbecue grill. There is moderate shade from junipers scattered around. It could get rather hot here in summer, but shade is available in a few sites where the big rock outcroppings block the sun. Some are rather exposed.
There is a hiking trail at the back of the campground that takes you through a juniper/pinion forest to the Old Stone Cabin. The hike is approx. 3 miles. RV Dump Station at Horsethief Gulch.
Visited March 2000.
