Dayton State Park is located 1 mile east of the center of Dayton, just off US Hwy 50. The park is small and pleasant (near the Carson River) and receives pretty good use. All the conveniences of Dayton are nearby in case you forgot some misc. supplies. This includes Grocery Stores and fast food restaurants.

Dayton State Park is set in two small loops. The first loop is the campground. The rear loop is a day use area with a large shade picnic area, good for barbecues and big gatherings (reservable) with nice grassy lawns and trees. Additionally there are scattered picnic tables around the park. On the east side of the park runs the Carson River. There are a few pedestrian bridges that cross the irrigation ditch for river access.

The camp is set in a small gravel paved loop with just 10 sites scattered around. Some sites are close together and others have decent privacy. The camping area is moderately covered with cottonwoods. Sites #1 - 5 have fair to good shade (but are close to the Highway), Sites #6 - 10 have very little shade...or none at all.

Campsites are clean and include picnic tables with concrete curbs and fire pits with flip-over BBQ grills (great for cooking over an open fire). Although hardly a vacation destination, Dayton State Park is a nice place to hang out and perhaps do some fishing. Reviewed 06/2002, 08/2005.
