Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park is located on the west side of the Shoshone Mountains overlooking the Ione Valley. The park consists of two units. The ghost town of Berlin is at the western entrance. The second part is the Ichthyosaur unit (ICK-THEE-OH-SORE), an archaeological park featuring a sea-going dinosaur, the Shonisaurus Ichthyosaur. It is located about 1 mile up hill from Berlin.
The campground is near the Ichthyosaur unit perched high on a bluff and is semi-densely forested with piñon pine and the occasional Utah juniper. Sites are spread apart fairly well and each contains a picnic table with a shade/shelter overhead, a barbecue grill and a campfire pit (most have flip-over grills too). The layout consists of an entrance road and it ends in a loop, with sites all around. There are bathroom/water facilities scattered about.
This camp typically fills up on Holiday weekends, but the park rangers allow over-flow camping in the picnic area at the bottom of Union Canyon. You can drive to the Ichthyosaur museum, or hike a 1/3 mile trail from the campground. Water supply can be sporadic, it is a good idea to bring in enough water with you for your stay. RV Dump Station. Reviewed 05/00, 05/01. Reviewed 06/2000.
