Lakeview Campground
Nevada Division of State Parks - Cave Lake State Park
Longitude -114.69364, Latitude 39.19115

Click to Locate Lakeview Campground on an Area Map Lakeview Campground is located in the very high and very scenic Schell Creek Range approximately 25 minutes from Ely, Nevada. Lakeview is the nearest camp to the lake at Cave Lake State Park. Access is from Forest Road 574, approximately a half mile east of the junction of Highway 486 (Success Summit Road). The route to the campground entrance is fully paved. Continuing north on Success Summit Road takes you over a summit along the Schell Creek Range and drives near the beautiful camps at Timber Creek. This drive is called the Success Loop.

The campground is located directly opposite Cave Creek Reservoir boat ramp and day use area. Just to clear up any confusion, the official name of the lake is Cave Creek Reservoir, but everyone calls it Cave Lake. Even the State Park is called Cave Lake. The day use area along the lake shore used to be the campground many, many years ago. But the State built the current Lakeview camp after converting to a state park.

The campground drive is gravel and heads up a semi-steep hill ending in a loop. There is a semi-dense pinion pine and utah juniper forest with moderate shade. Some sites are spaced well apart for privacy, but some others are quite close together. Each site is well developed and maintained including picnic tables, retaining walls, tent pads and fire pits with flip over BBQ grills.

Most sites are pretty steep. Site #24 is a pull through site with a fantastic view of the lake and the rocky mountains to the south. Site #30 is a handicap accessible site. Site #26 is perched high on a hill with 360 degree views. This would be my pick to stay at to tent camp. There is a group site near the entrance. It is essentialy just a double site, with lots of room for tents and RV's.

There is only one bathroom, near the center of the campground. It includes flush toilets and showers. They really should have at least one more bathroom in the upper loop considering the steepness of the terrain. The campground is open year round, but the top half is closed November through April.

Fun things to do in the area include wildlife spotting, exlporing, hiking, etc. However, the most popular activity has got to be fishing. Cave Lake is a very popular fishery and the record German Brown Trout for the state was caught in the lake. Hunters also frequent the campground in the fall.

An RV Dump Station is located near the Elk Flat Campground approximately 1 mile away. Visited September 1998 and October 2009.
