Timber Creek camp is located in the center of the Duck Creek recreation area east of McGill up in he Schell Creek Range. Access is via paved SR 486 (Duck Creek Road) and the fair dirt Timber Creek Road. It is passable to cars if care is taken around rocks.
Timber Creek is not only the nicest campground in the Schell Creek Range, it's one of the best in the state. Timber Creek is a perennial creek with good flows. The area around the creek and up the southern ridge is densely forested with Englemann Spruce (very pretty) and Quaking Aspen along the creek with the occasional Douglas fir. This is a very moist area with true timber forests, very characteristic of Rocky Mountain forests. It's hard to believe you're in Nevada, a sight to behold.
Sites #A - #D are large group sites. These are only available through reservations (contact the Ely Ranger District at 775-289-3031 or click on the link in this listing). They are well developed and are well-suited for large groups. Most are near toilets and have large parking areas, fire pits, barbecues and playground swings.
The rest of the sites, #1 - #6 are located above the group sites along Timber Creek. These sites are very pretty and well developed. Each has a picnic table on a large concrete pad, with a barbecue grill and a fire pit. Every site is densely forested with great shade and access to Timber Creek. Currently, reservations are not accepted for these sites, but this may change in the 2010 season.
All but two of the bathrooms are flush toilets with sinks/vanities. The other two are vault toilets. Facilities were well maintained and clean upon review. The forest service does a lot with the $8 it gets per campsite. There are water spigots placed throughout, but some of them are not very visible.
Visited June 2001.
